Acceptable Use Policy
1. The short version
Run an honest site. Sell only what you are allowed to sell. Use only words, images and artwork you have the rights to. Email only people who asked to hear from you. Do not try to break the Service or anyone else's site.
This policy is part of our Terms of Service. It applies to everything you do with the Service, the platform currently called bitmutt: your pages, your store, your printed products, your files and your emails. "You" includes anyone with an admin account on your site.
2. What you may not publish, sell or do
Anything illegal where you are, where we are, or where your visitors and buyers are.
Harm to people.
- Sexual content involving anyone under 18, or content that sexualises minors. We report it to the authorities.
- Threats, harassment, stalking, or encouraging violence or self-harm.
- Content that attacks or demeans people for their race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation or age.
- Publishing someone's private information, such as a home address or identity documents, without their consent.
- Intimate images shared without the consent of the person shown.
Deception.
- Pretending to be another person, business or organization, including through your site's address or a domain you connect.
- Scams, pyramid schemes, fake reviews, counterfeit goods, and misleading claims about what a product is or does.
- Phishing, or collecting passwords, card numbers or identity documents under false pretences.
- Selling something you do not intend to deliver, or cannot.
Restricted goods and services. You may not sell weapons, ammunition or explosives, illegal drugs or drug equipment, prescription medicines, tobacco or vaping products, stolen goods, human remains, or protected wildlife products. You may not run gambling, lotteries or paid prize draws. Stripe keeps its own list of businesses it will not serve, and your store must follow that list too.
Adult content. Pornography and explicit sexual content are not allowed. Artistic nudity may be, but it must be labelled and must not appear on printed products.
Malware. No viruses, spyware, hidden cryptocurrency miners, or files designed to damage a device or steal from it.
3. Other people's work, and printed products
Use only content you made, own, or have permission to use. That applies to every word and image on your site, and above all to artwork you put on printed products.
You may not print or sell designs that use someone else's characters, logos, brand names, team or band names, song lyrics, photographs or artwork without a licence, or a real person's name or face without their permission. "I found it online", "it is fan art" and "I changed it a bit" are not permission.
Printful has its own rules about what it will print and may refuse an order. Designs that break this policy can be removed from your store even if Printful would print them.
4. Email and mailing lists
- Email only people who signed up themselves, or who clearly agreed to hear from you. Do not add people by hand because you have their address, and do not buy, rent or scrape lists.
- Say who you are. Every mailing must make clear which business, club or organization it comes from, and must include a postal address where the law requires one.
- The unsubscribe link must stay, and it must work. Someone who unsubscribes is removed from your list. Do not add them back unless they sign up again.
- No misleading subject lines, and no emails dressed up to look as if they come from someone else.
- Order emails are for the order. Do not use them to advertise to buyers who did not ask for that.
Many bounces, spam complaints or unsubscribes tell us a list was not built on permission. We may pause sending while we look into it.
5. Security and fair use
You may not:
- try to get into another site, account or system, or probe the Service for weaknesses without our written permission;
- get around limits, access controls or anti-spam checks;
- overload the Service, or use scripts or bots to hit it far harder than a person using a browser would;
- use your site mainly as file storage, a download mirror or a media host for another website;
- run anything on the Service that mines cryptocurrency or attacks other systems;
- share your sign-in with anyone else, or resell access to the Service.
If you find a security problem, please tell us privately at legal@bitmutt.com and give us a reasonable time to fix it before telling anyone else. We will not take action against you for an honest report made that way.
6. Payments
- Charge buyers only for what they ordered, at the price they were shown.
- Do not use your store to move money for someone else, to test stolen cards, or to take payments for a business other than the one you told Stripe about.
- Follow Stripe's rules for your account, and answer disputes honestly.
7. Reporting a problem
If you see a site on the Service that breaks this policy, write to abuse@bitmutt.com. Tell us the address of the page, what is wrong with it, and how to reach you. We read every report. We may not be able to tell you what we did about it.
8. Copyright and trademark complaints
If you believe a site on the Service uses your work without permission, send a notice to our copyright agent: Nicholas Provost, Copyright Agent, 406 Marcus Garvey Blvd, Apt 4R, Brooklyn, NY 11216, abuse@bitmutt.com.
A notice needs:
- your signature, typed or handwritten, or that of someone allowed to act for you;
- what work is yours, with a link or a description;
- the exact page or image on the site that copies it;
- your name, postal address, phone number and email address;
- a statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorized by the owner, its agent or the law;
- a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the notice is accurate and that you are the owner or act for the owner.
When we receive a complete notice we remove or block the material and tell the site's owner. The owner may send a counter-notice to the same address if they believe the removal was a mistake. It needs their signature, what was removed and where it was, a statement under penalty of perjury that they believe it was removed by mistake, their name and address, and their agreement to the jurisdiction of the federal court for their district. We then restore the material in 10 to 14 business days, unless the person who complained tells us they have gone to court.
We close the sites of people who infringe repeatedly. Knowingly sending a false notice or counter-notice can make you liable for damages.
9. What we do about breaches
We look at what happened, how serious it is, and whether it has happened before. Depending on that, we may:
- ask you to fix it;
- remove or hide the content or product;
- pause your mailing list or your store;
- disconnect a domain you connected;
- freeze your site, which closes it to visitors while you can still sign in;
- close your site for good;
- tell Stripe, Printful or the authorities where we have to, or where someone may be in danger.
For most problems we write to you first and give you time to put it right. For serious harm, such as anything involving children, threats, malware, fraud or an attack on the Service, we act first and write to you straight after. If you think we got it wrong, reply to our message and a person will look again.
We may change this policy as described in the Terms of Service.
